The House of Belsher
The seal and the motto
The emblem and the words the family carries forward.
The seal
The seal joins the Staffordshire knot, for the family's English roots, with the letter B. Around it runs The Belsher Family · Staffordshire · Virginia 1722, for the county of origin and the birth year of Thomas Bartholomew Belcher, the earliest known ancestor.
The motto
Bono animo perduravimus: with good cheer, we have endured.
Across eleven generations the family came through frontier Georgia, debt and lost land in Tennessee, a civil war, the move west to Texas, and a name nearly lost and then reclaimed. The motto says the family came through it in good heart, and promises to keep doing so.
